Morton's Neuroma

A nerve between your toe bones has become thickened and irritated.

What it feels like

Burning pain between the toes. Wide, low-heeled footwear matters as much as these exercises. Move slowly and stop if any exercise sharply increases your pain or burning.

Also called: burning between toes, forefoot pain

Come in sooner if

numbness spreading well beyond your toes, or redness/warmth/swelling in the forefoot — these need further evaluation.

The exercises we give you

  1. Toe Splay
  2. Calf Stretch
  3. Towel Stretch
  4. Marble Pickup
  5. Forefoot Rolling Massage
  6. Ankle Circles

Your handout shows how to do each one. How many, and how often, is set for you at the clinic — it depends on the stage you are at.

Living with it

Do this programme once or twice a day. Switch to wide toe-box, low-heeled shoes, and avoid narrow or pointed footwear. A small pad placed just behind the ball of your foot can also help offload the area.

If pain persists despite footwear changes, please return to discuss further options.

Come and be examined

A handout is a starting point, not a diagnosis. If the pain is not settling, come in and have it looked at properly — bring any X-ray, MRI or CT films you already have.
